The European Space Agency (ESA) is funding the COASTCHART project with the aim of developing and qualifying an Earth Observation (EO) information system for the production of coastal products that can support hydrographic organisations in their activities related to the cartographic actualisation of marine charts. The COASTCHART products to be produced, validated and delivered consist of "Coastline Restitution" products that will be developed at two different scales (1:50,000 and 1:15,000) and demonstrated on the Western African Coast (from Senegal to Congo).

The project is funded under the framework of the Data User Element (DUE), a programmatic instrument of the European Space Agency for the development and demonstration of Space based information services that respond to the operational needs of user communities. The funding of the COASTCHART project amounts to 1 MEURO over a 22 months period. The project will be performed by an inter-disciplinary consortium of private companies and research institutes under ESA contract.
